Your Hopkinton, New Hampshire Law Office

This is home. Our office is at 8 Maple Street, in the town where we live and work, and Hopkinton clients aren't a service area to us — they're neighbors.

That means something practical. We know the Select Board and the Planning Board. We know which parcels have complicated history and which deeds were written in language nobody uses anymore. We've been to the fair. When a Hopkinton client calls, we usually know the road, and often the property.

Hopkinton or Contoocook? Both, and It Matters

If you own property here, you've run into this. The town is Hopkinton. The mailing address for much of it is Contoocook. One ZIP code, 03229, covers the whole town — Hopkinton Village, Contoocook, and West Hopkinton alike.

Most of the time it's a curiosity. Occasionally it's a legal problem.

Deeds, wills, and title searches are indexed by the town of record, not the mailing address. A will that describes "my home in Contoocook" is describing property in the Town of Hopkinton, and that mismatch can create a moment of confusion at exactly the wrong point — during a title search, in a probate filing, or when a lender's underwriter in another state can't reconcile two names for one place.

It's easily handled when someone catches it. It's a headache when nobody does. We catch it.

What Hopkinton Clients Actually Call About

Estate planning

Wills, trusts, durable powers of attorney, and advance directives, most on a flat fee. For families whose land has been here for generations, the real question is usually less about taxes than about keeping the property intact and out of a court fight.

Probate and estate administration

Hopkinton estates are administered through the Merrimack County probate court in Concord. We take executors and administrators through it from petition to final accounting.

Real estate

Closings, deeds, title work, easements, boundary questions, and subdivisions. Recording happens at the Merrimack County Registry of Deeds in Concord; the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Adjustment meet at Town Hall on Main Street.

Business law

Formation, contracts, commercial leases, and exit planning for Contoocook's small businesses and the people running them out of home offices across town.

Landlord/tenant

Leases, security deposits under RSA 540-A, and eviction matters. We represent both sides.

Injury, defense, and litigation

Car accidents on I-89 and Route 103, criminal charges heard in the Merrimack County courts, and civil litigation in state and federal court.
